May 30, 2023 – South Metro Area Regional Transit (SMART), which provides transit service within the City of Wilsonville, has been awarded $440,000 from the Oregon’s Statewide Transportation Improvement Fund’s competitive programs, the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) has announced.
ODOT is allocating more than $28.5 million to transit authorities throughout Oregon to support bus service, maintain and purchase vehicles, build bus charging stations and fund additional improvements. STIF awards are funded from state payroll taxes, and support programs that help many of Oregon’s residents most in need.
The grants awarded to SMART are to fund two initiatives:

May 17, 2023 — At the May 15, 2023, meeting of the Wilsonville City Council, on second reading, the City Council adopted revisions to the City’s overnight camping Code. The legal review of Wilsonville camping code brings the City into compliance with State laws effective July 1 that prohibit Oregon cities from outright banning overnight camping.

Each Wednesday our Walk Smart group meets for a group walk. We meet at 11:45am, listen to a partner presentation at 11:55am, and walk promptly at noon. Each walk has its own meet location, and duration. Walks are 20- 40 minutes in length. Come learn about the partner for the day, meet some like minded folks and enjoy some treats provided by our partners.

May 2, 2023 — At the May 1, 2023, meeting of the Wilsonville City Council, the City Council, on first reading, adopted revisions to the City Code that pertains to overnight camping in tents and/or vehicles in Wilsonville. The legal review of overnight camping code, led by the City Attorney, is to bring the City in compliance with State and Federal laws requiring that Oregon cities provide compassionate protections for people experiencing homelessness by July 1, 2023.

April 20, 2023 – W.E.R.K. (Wilsonville Environmental Resource Keepers) Day is the City’s annual volunteer outing to complete clean-up projects to prepare Memorial Park for the busy summer season. This year, it takes place on Saturday, May 6, from 9-11 am.
Volunteers (groups and individuals are welcome) are assigned tasks such as bark dusting, painting, invasive species removal, and more.

April 18, 2023 — At the April 17, 2023, meeting of the Wilsonville City Council, Mayor Julie Fitzgerald delivered a State of the City, which articulated the City Council’s 2023-25 goals, celebrated recent accomplishments and looked ahead at several of the City’s upcoming projects and challenges.
At a public hearing, on first reading, the Council adopted a recommendation of the City’s Planning Commission to integrate transportation projects from the Frog Pond East and South Master Plan into the City’s Transportation System Plan (TSP).

April 11, 2023 – The Wilsonville Public Library has been awarded a $5,000 grant by the State Library of Oregon to fund the hiring of a teenager to serve as the Library’s summer intern.
The internship has been posted on the City of Wilsonville’s Job Opportunities page; interested candidates may apply online until April 24. The Wilsonville Library seeks to fill the position by June, with the internship continuing through the end of August.

April 4, 2023 — At the April 3, 2023, meeting of the Wilsonville City Council, the Council welcomed the Wilsonville High School boys’ varsity basketball team in celebration of its third consecutive OSAA Class 5A State Championship. Mayor Julie Fitzgerald read a proclamation declaring April 3-7 “Wilsonville Wildcats Week,” which detailed many of the team and individual achievements earned by the Wildcats en route to their sixth State title.

March 21, 2023 — At the March 20, 2023, meeting of the Wilsonville City Council, the Council approved an intergovernmental agreement and memorandum of understanding with Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon (TriMet). These agreements would remove unserved City of Wilsonville properties from TriMet’s boundaries and explain the process for petitioning TriMet to withdraw areas within the Wilsonville urban growth boundary in 2026, the next available petition cycle.

March 22, 2023— The City of Wilsonville is recruiting applicants interested in serving on the City boards and commissions that provide guidance and oversight of City programs.
New terms begin in July 2023 for 10 open seats on five City boards. Members typically attend evening meetings (no more than once a month) and assist in making policy recommendations to the City Council.

March 13, 2023 — The City and Republic Services are hosting the first of two 2023 Bulky Waste Day events on Saturday, May 6, 9 am-1 pm, at Republic Services (10295 SW Ridder Rd.) in Wilsonville.
Bulky Waste Day provides an opportunity for Wilsonville residents to dispose of large or unusual items that cannot be picked up curbside. Proof of Wilsonville residence is required.
There is no charge to dispose of waste. In lieu of charging a fee, the City is asking participants to donate new or unused gift cards from local merchants in small denominations ($5-20) to help Wilsonville Community Sharing provide critical assistance to local families in need.

March 9, 2023 — City of Wilsonville Mayor Julie Fitzgerald is scheduled to present the 2023 “State of the City” address at the April 17 meeting of the Wilsonville City Council. The meeting takes place at 7 pm, at Wilsonville City Hall, 29799 SW Town Center Loop East.
Delivered virtually last year because of COVID-19, the annual State of the City address provides an opportunity for Mayor Fitzgerald to summarize the City’s recent achievements and to preview the City Council’s goals, initiatives, opportunities and challenges.

March 7, 2023 — At the March 6, 2023, meeting of the Wilsonville City Council, the Council granted annual property-tax exemptions to five multi-family facilities — Autumn Park Apartments, Charleston Apartments, Creekside Woods LP, Rain Garden LP and Wiedemann Park — that provide 365 residential units of affordable housing. These annual exemptions allow the facilities to provide lower-cost rent to families, seniors and individuals meeting income qualifications.
The Council directed the Parks and Recreation Department to pursue a grant from the Oregon State Parks Local Government Grant Program (LGGP) to fund a project to replace the 35-year-old restroom at Boones Ferry Park. The new restroom, which would include two single, non-gender specific restrooms, better serves the community and reduces maintenance costs.

February 24, 2023 — At the February 23, 2023, online virtual meeting of the Wilsonville City Council, the Council authorized the purchase of approximately a half-acre from five separate properties as part of the construction of the Boeckman Road Corridor Improvement Project. The property acquisitions are for road right-of-way and easements for access, public utilities and temporary construction use.
