City Boards and Commissions play an important role in local government. These volunteer committees lend their time and expertise to improve our community and provide citizen oversight; their work  ensures that City staff and elected officials serve the public interest.

Applying to Serve: Typically, the City solicits candidates each fall for new terms that begin in January or July of the following year. On occasion, candidates may be sought to replace volunteers unable to complete their term of service. The City posts active recruitments here, though applications may be submitted year-round to be considered as positions become available.

Eligibility: The City seeks to represent the community at large by appointing informed and dedicated volunteers who bring a diverse range of educational, professional and personal experiences to the committee they serve. Typically, applicants must be Wilsonville residents, though some exceptions apply.

Diversity and Inclusion:  Wilsonville is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion within its boards, commissions, and committees. Women, people with disabilities, sexual and gender minorities, young people, older adults, people of color and immigrants are encouraged to apply. We recognize that diversity within the city’s Boards and Commissions is critical to ensure that City policies, programs and services are developed to serve people of every race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion and ability.

Appointments: The Mayor leads the process of reviewing applications, interviewing qualified candidates and recommending appointments (or re-appointments), which must be confirmed by a majority vote of the City Council.

Civics Academy: Many current and former members of City Boards and Commissions are graduates of the Civics Academy, a free program hosted by the City annually to provide an introduction to local government. Applications open in the fall for next year’s session.

Additional Boards: Wilsonville Community Seniors, Inc. operates as an 'unofficial' City board, advising the City on matters relevant to older adults; membership is elected by program participants at the Wilsonville Community Center.  The Urban Renewal Agency, composed of the City's five elected officials, provides direction and approval for projects and programs to invest in and improve specific geographic areas.
