February 25, 2021 — Earlier this week, the City of Wilsonville’s Public Works and Park Maintenance Staff completed the work of trimming hazardous limbs and removing tree debris from all 86.2 lane miles of the city’s major arterial roadways.
Since the Feb. 13 onset of the severe winter storm that felled or damaged thousands of Wilsonville trees, the City has operated in accordance with its Debris Management Plan, which calls for the immediate clean-up of public hazards along major arterials and collectors. The crews are now focusing their attention on completing debris clean-up at parks, trails, green spaces and other public properties.

February 24, 2021 — At the direction of the City Council, the City of Wilsonville is establishing a new Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Committee to identify and address systemic barriers to inclusion that exist within the City’s practices, processes, regulations, events and other initiatives.
The City is now recruiting volunteers to join the DEI Committee. Applications must be submitted by 5 pm on Monday, April 5.

February 19, 2021 — At the February 18, 2021, meeting, the Council approved a contract allowing SMART to purchase an Intelligent Transportation System. The system, to be installed this year throughout the City’s transit network, upgrades the user experience with amenities that include Wi-Fi and real-time trip information.
SMART has selected GMV Syncromatics to provide the technology system, which also aids SMART operations by providing passenger counts, an internal communications system to improve dispatch, and extensive data reporting capabilities. The $543,000 project is made possible by a Statewide Transportation Improvement Fund (STIF) discretionary grant in the amount of $424,000.
The Council also approved the purchase of a closed circuit video equipment and vehicle to allow Public Works to inspect the City’s underground sewer and stormwater infrastructure more efficiently.

Residents May Sign Up to Have Woody Yard Debris Picked Up on Sunday
February 17, 2021 — The City of Wilsonville is coordinating a Community Clean-Up Day on Sunday, Feb. 21. Interested volunteers will be dispatched to assist residents who don’t have the hauling capacity to remove trees, limbs and woody debris from their property.
For this one-time event, the City is soliciting volunteers with hauling capacity. Volunteers are being sent only by request, and are only able to remove debris piles that are organized and placed at the property’s edge.

Residents requesting assistance to remove tree debris must simply complete the following steps.

February 16, 2021 — Beginning on Wednesday, Feb. 17, the City is inviting Wilsonville residents and business operators to dispose of trees, limbs and woody debris at no charge.
Free disposal of tree waste is being permitted daily from 8 am to 5 pm at the Wilsonville Transit Center, accessible via Barber St., between Kinsman Rd. and Boberg Rd. Only fallen trees, limbs and woody debris will be accepted, and materials may only be dropped off between 8 am-5 pm. Proof of residence (driver’s license with Wilsonville address or utility bill) is required.
Because of the continued threat of COVID-19 transmission, the federal government requires proper face coverings be worn at the Transit Center. In addition, the City is requiring that vehicle occupants unload all items brought for disposal and maintain social distancing guidelines.

February 14, 2021 — City Manager Bryan Cosgrove declared a local State of Emergency on Saturday evening to allow the City to more effectively take action to alleviate the effects of snow and ice storms that have felled scores of trees and remain a significant threat to public safety. The action went into effect immediately and may be ratified by a resolution to be brought before the City Council at its next scheduled meeting on Thursday, Feb. 18.
Declaring this State of Emergency allows City staff greater flexibility to address safety hazards by facilitating more expedient coordination with other public agencies and quicker deployment of resources needed to safeguard the community. The designation also aides the City’s efforts when requesting assistance and/or reimbursement for expenditures.

February 2, 2021 — At the February 1, 2021, meeting, the Council approved a resolution authorizing the Finance department to pursue the refinancing of about $26 million in remaining debt from bonds issued in 2011 to finance the Waste Water Treatment Plant Rehabilitation Project. With the reduction in interest rates, the City could see anywhere between $1.5 to $3 million dollars in interest savings over the life of the debt.
The Council also approved an amended contract with DOWL, LLC, which allocates an additional $1.15 million for the development of an advance engineering design of the I-5 Pedestrian Bridge. In October, the Council affirmed the Planning Commission’s recommendation of a Tied Arch Bridge

Janurary 22, 2021 — At the January 21, 2021, meeting, the Council voted in favor of supporting House Bill 2497. Sponsored by State House Rep. Courtney Neron, HB 2497 develops a process for local City and County governments and the Oregon Department of Aviation to work together to update the Aurora Airport Master Plan. The bill’s intent is to guide a collaborative and transparent process aimed at reaching solutions rather than requiring parties to seek remedies through litigation.
In accordance with Oregon budget law, the City Council and the Urban Renewal Agency each held public hearings to approve supplemental budget adjustments to accommodate a number of recent and future projects, including an $80,000 program to provide additional COVID-19 relief funds to Wilsonville restaurants to help mitigate financial losses.

January 5, 2021 — At the January 4, 2021, meeting, Mayor Julie Fitzgerald, Councilor Kristin Akervall and Councilor Joann Linville were sworn in to begin new four-year terms. Municipal Court Judge Fred Weinhouse presided over the virtual swearing-in ceremony, administering the Oath of Office. Fitzgerald becomes the ninth resident to serve as Mayor of Wilsonville.
“I’m really grateful for the opportunity you’ve entrusted me with as Mayor,” Fitzgerald said. “I look forward to leading with good governance, innovation, inclusiveness, resilience and the desire to strengthen our local economy for our residents and our business operators.”
The first order of business for the newly-seated Council was to re-elect Councilor Akervall to the position of Council President.

December 22, 2020 — At the December 21, 2020, Wilsonville City Council meeting — the final meeting to be led by outgoing Mayor Tim Knapp — the Wilsonville City Council confirmed 21 new appointments to City Boards and Commissions, including the inaugural appointments to the City’s newest board.
Recently chartered to guide Wilsonville’s long-time cultural exchange program with Kitakata City, Japan, the first Kitakata Sister City Advisory Board includes nine citizens recommended by Mayor Knapp and confirmed by the City Council. They are: Adrienne Phillips, Tracy Sailors and Robert Yokoyama (three-year terms); Dave Schalk, Seiji Shiratori, and Ashleigh Sumerlin (two-year terms); and Jason Jones, Aaron Reyna and Cathy Rice (one-year terms). Long-time sister city program custodians Susan Raxter, Lois Reimer and Bev Schalk were provided emeritus status.

Dec. 8, 2020 — At the Dec. 7, 2020, meeting of the Wilsonville City Council, the Council adopted a resolution to provide $80,000 in relief to local restaurant operators. City grants of up to $2,000 are being distributed this month to help Wilsonville’s dine-in restaurants compensate for the loss of business during the ongoing pandemic.
The City Council also adopted a resolution declaring Dec. 15, 2020, “Mayor Tim Knapp Day” in honor of the outgoing mayor, who has served the community for the greater part of two decades.

For the month of December, your Youth Services and Adult Services Librarians have assembled Take-and-Make Bags to accompany our programs this month.
Kids' Take-And-Make Bags feature supplies for the December "Stories and Science on the Go" programs. Each bag contains activities that match with a Storytime program streaming on YouTube. Watch "Stories and Science on the Go" each week, and follow along as Brad, Sam, and Jo craft, draw, and explore science.
Teens can pick up a "Cocoa Care Package" to prepare for the December 11 teen online event: "Hot Cocoa/Pajama/"Among Us" party.
Teens are encouraged to get cozy with a cup of cocoa, bring a mobile device or two, and play Among Us (free game download on mobile). Cocoa care packages will be available (for students in grades 6-12 only!) while supplies last.
