September 21, 2021 — At the September 20, 2021, meeting of the Wilsonville City Council, the Council approved a $475,000 contract with Romtec Inc. to replace and upgrade the central restroom facilities at Memorial Park.
The project, identified as a priority in the Memorial Park Master Plan, is providing six (6) new individual, all-gender bathrooms that nearly double existing capacity to support more than 100,000 annual park visitors. The project also reduces long-term park maintenance costs and provides more inclusive facilities for park users.

September 20, 2021 — The City’s popular Bulky Waste Day returns on Saturday, Oct. 23, 9 am-1 pm, at Republic Services (10295 SW Ridder Rd.) in Wilsonville. The event is provided in partnership with Republic Services, the City’s franchised recycling and waste hauler.
Bulky Waste Day provides an opportunity for Wilsonville residents to dispose of large or unusual items that cannot be picked up curbside. Proof of Wilsonville residence is required.
In lieu of payment, participants are encouraged to donate new, wrapped toiletry items – including soap, shampoo, laundry soap, deodorant, paper towels, etc. – to help Wilsonville Community Sharing’s Food Bank provide critical assistance to local families in need.

September 10, 2021 — At the September 9, 2021, meeting of the Wilsonville City Council, the Council, on second reading, approved the adoption of the Twist Bioscience Wilsonville Investment Now (WIN) Zone.
The new 4.4-acre site-specific Urban Renewal Area at the Parkworks Industry Center (26600 SW Parkway Dr.) is the City’s first WIN Zone. The designation provides property-tax rebates to California-based Twist Bioscience, which plans to invest $70 million in capital improvements at the site and create 200 jobs in within its first year.
The Council also adopted a new collective bargaining agreement between the City of Wilsonville and Wilsonville Municipal Employees Association (WilMEA). The three-year agreement is in effect through June 30, 2024.

September 8, 2021 – Wilsonville Parks and Recreation is accepting Community Opportunity Grant applications through Friday, Sept. 24.
Each year, the City distributes up to $25,000 in Community Opportunity Grant awards from its general fund to provide funding for a wide range of local programs and projects in Wilsonville. Successful proposals support education, diversity, arts, entertainment and community-building programs.
Complete grant guidelines and the online application are available at WilsonvilleParksandRec.com/GrantPrograms.
The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board reviews all applications and typically allocates awards twice annually. This fall’s application review date is Thursday, Oct. 14, at 6 pm.
During the most recent funding cycle, last spring, a grant was awarded in support of the Wilsonville Arts and Culture Council.

August 25, 2021 – The City of Wilsonville is collaborating with local non-profit Friends of Trees for two community street tree planting events to help residential communities recover from tree damage that occurred during February’s ice storm.
For $35 per tree, registrants may select a street tree from a pre-approved list of varieties; the City is covering the balance of the planting costs. Street trees are those trees generally located in front or side yards, or between curbs and public sidewalks on residential streets.
These planting events are scheduled to take place on Oct. 23 and Dec. 4. Residents must sign up for the Oct. 23 event before Sept. 11 at 5 pm. See the list of trees available, and sign up at friendsoftrees.org/get-a-tree/.

August 19, 2021 — After a one-year absence, the City’s end-of-the-summer Community Block Party is returning to Town Center Park next Thursday, Aug. 26, from 5:30 to 8:30 pm. Highlighting the event is a live concert performance from Samsel, a self-described “American Alternative” band with bluesy and rootsy influences.
The fun and music begin at 5:30 pm. Food is available for purchase from Koi Fusion, Dough on the Go and Beats & Eats. Wilsonville’s Vanguard Brewing has been licensed to serve beer to guests over 21 years of age with valid proof of ID.
This free community event provides an outdoor space for people to come together to mingle among friends, family and neighbors to celebrate the end of summer. Visitors are encouraged to act in accordance with Oregon Health Authority guidelines to limit the community spread of COVID-19.

August 17, 2021 — At the August 16, 2021, meeting of the Wilsonville City Council, the Council approved the adoption of the Twist Bioscience Wilsonville Investment Now (WIN) Zone, a new 4.4 acre site-specific Urban Renewal Area at the Parkway Industry Center (26600 SW Parkway Dr.). This economic development agreement, the first established under WIN administrative rules adopted last year, provides property tax rebates to incentivize new capital investment and family-wage jobs in Wilsonville.
Twist Bioscience, a California-based biotech firm, expects to invest $70 million in capital improvements and create 200 new jobs in within its first year of operation in Wilsonville. A presentation from the company highlighted its work to produce synthetic DNA that is (among many uses) supporting safe and effective research to combat the coronavirus.

August 16, 2021 — Keith Katko, who has more than 22 years of municipal finance experience with the City of Wilsonville, has been appointed to serve as the City’s new Finance Director, City Manager Bryan Cosgrove has announced.
Katko replaces Cathy Rodocker, who retired in June 2021. He most recently served as the City’s Assistant Finance Director, since 2018. For the 10 years immediately prior to that, he was the Finance Department’s Operations Manager. He joined the City’s Finance Department as an Accountant in 1999.
“I am immensely proud to be able to contribute to an ongoing legacy of financial responsibility in Wilsonville, and to serve the Wilsonville community in this capacity,” Katko said. “I have a passion for accounting, and I enjoy the challenges, opportunities and the diverse set of responsibilities associated with municipal finance.”

August 5, 2021 — The City of Wilsonville is hosting a ceremony to formally recognize Memorial Park’s Stein-Boozier Walnut Orchard as Oregon’s newest Heritage Trees. The event takes place on Thursday, Sept. 16, at 11 am Thursday, Aug. 12, at 2 pm at the Murase Plaza Grove Shelter. This event has moved because of excessive temperatures in the Aug. 12 forecast.
The Stein-Boozier Walnut Orchard received the Heritage Tree designation last year by the Travel Information Council (TIC). A planned dedication event in April 2020 was put on hold because of COVID-19.
Attendees can expect to learn some Oregon history from former and current walnut and hazelnut growers, take a walk among the trees, tour the historic Stein-Boozier barn and see original nut dryer shed. The event includes light refreshments and samples of Oregon nut products.

August 3, 2021 — At the August 2, 2021, meeting of the Wilsonville City Council, the Council approved the allocation of $80,500 in Community Enhancement funds at the recommendation of the Wilsonville-Metro Community Enhancement Committee. During this cycle, funding was allocated exclusively in support of projects that aid residents in grinding stumps, rehabilitating trees or cleaning up Significant Resource Overlay Zones damaged in February’s ice storm.
Additionally, the Council authorized the City’s use of an alternative contracting method to contract the Boeckman Road Corridor Project. The use of Progressive Design Build (PDB) contracting provides better coordination and collaboration on the Boeckman Dip Bridge project and three interconnected projects along the Boeckman Road corridor. The improved coordination yields cost savings on the project, which is scheduled to get underway in 2023.

July 26, 2021 — Kris Ammerman joins the City of Wilsonville today as its new Parks and Recreation Director.
Ammerman is an experienced parks and recreation professional who most recently worked for the City of Roseburg.
“Beyond his extensive experience, Kris is passionate about creating a vibrant community through parks and recreation. He is a humble leader with a commitment to excellence in public service,” Assistant City Manager Jeanna Troha said.
In Wilsonville, Ammerman’s responsibilities include developing and overseeing recreation programs, parks maintenance and development, senior services and implementing projects outlined in three parks master plans.

Acquisition of 12 additional Lo-No emission buses of various sizes and capacities, along with associated infrastructure, furthers SMART’s efforts to become the first transit agency in Oregon to operate an entire fleet of alternative fuel vehicles, including CNG (Compressed Natural Gas), hybrid, and Battery-Electric buses.

July 20, 2021 — At the July 19, 2021 meeting of the Wilsonville City Council, the Council approved an intergovernmental agreement with the City of Sherwood to share the costs of a project to increase the intake capacity of the Willamette River Water Treatment Plant by 5 million gallons per day. The project, to accommodate future growth in both cities, is expected to get underway next year.
The Council also approved two intergovernmental overnight loan agreements between the City and the Urban Renewal Agency. Required by State urban renewal law, these transactions provide resources to fund work on the 5th St./Kinsman Rd. extension, the “Boeckman Dip” bridge and Brown Rd.

July 8, 2021 — The Wilsonville Community Center, closed to the public since March 2020 because of COVID-19, is getting set to re-open its doors. Next week, in-person social services are resuming. In August, the building is re-opening for community use and many drop-in activities.
Effective this Monday, July 12, patrons may meet on-site with the Community Center’s Social Worker, Sadie Wallenberg (503-570-1526). The medical equipment loan program also resumes July 12 by appointment with Wallenberg.
On Monday, Aug. 2, the Community Center resumes normal business hours, Monday thru Friday, 8 am–5 pm. August also marks the return of many drop-in activities, including card games, Bingo and Photography Club. The Stretch, Strength and Stamina program resumes on Aug. 16.

June 30, 2021 — Because of an elevated risk of fires caused by the region’s unprecedented heat wave, the City of Wilsonville is placing a temporary ban on the use of all fireworks within city limits through Saturday, July 10.
The Wilsonville City Council has approved a Declaration of Emergency authorizing the temporary ban, which takes effect immediately and could be extended in the event dry, hot weather persists.
“The risk of a catastrophic fire is too big to ignore, and we need people to hold off on fireworks until weather conditions improve,” Mayor Julie Fitzgerald said. “These extreme conditions require that we all take extra care to protect our neighbors, our property and our natural resources.”

Starting July 1, the Wilsonville Public Library will resume its normal open hours schedule:
- Monday-Thursday: 10am—8 pm
- Friday-Saturday: 10am—6 pm
- Sunday: 1 pm—6 pm.
The building is open to the public for the following services:
- browsing the stacks
- picking up holds
- computers with internet access
- public copy machine
Additional services will be added as we have the staff capacity to implement them.
Overdue fines and charges for lost library materials will resume on July 1. Please renew or return overdue items before July 1 to avoid any charges.
COVID restrictions have been lifted, so no masks or physical distancing are required.

- Saturday, June 26 - 12 pm to 9 pm
- Sunday, June 27 - 12 pm to 9 pm
