Nighttime Closure of Barber Bridge Begins October 10 and Ends Late November
As part of the now-underway Kinsman Road extension project that connects Barber Street and Boeckman Road just east of the Villebois neighborhood, a nighttime closure of the Barber Bridge, 9:00 p.m.–6:00 a.m., is planned to begin in the evening on Monday, October 10, and last until late November.
During the day and also regular commuting hours, a single travel lane across the bridge is to remain open, but travelers should expect delays and are encouraged to use the established detour route along Wilsonville and Brown Roads. The closure is needed to install a 66-inch water pipeline through the intersection for the Willamette Water Supply Program—a partnership between Tualatin Valley Water District and the City of Hillsboro to develop the mid-Willamette River as an additional water supply that is planned to be operational by 2026. The Kinsman Road extension is the first section of the 30-mile pipeline stretching from Wilsonville to Hillsboro, to be installed. The Kinsman Road extension project, scheduled for completion by June 2018, provides an additional north-south roadway connection through Wilsonville, linking the western residential neighborhoods with the City’s industrial employment areas. The project also includes new bike lanes, sidewalks and a multi-use pathway that runs along the Coffee Creek wetlands natural area. Under the roadway are five wildlife crossings including a culvert and pipes to provide a variety of animals safe crossing options as well as fencing along the full extension of the roadway to direct wildlife to the various wildlife crossings.
In addition to the water pipeline, the roadway includes a 30-inch sanitary sewer pipe to accommodate future growth in the Coffee Creek and Basalt Creek Industrial areas to the north. The complex project also includes threading the roadway through the Coffee Lake Creek wetlands, under the Bonneville Power utility lines, away from forested habitat and close to existing industrial development.
Next spring and summer the project also includes construction of a roundabout at the north end of the project where the extension of Kinsman Road and Boeckman Road are planned to intersect. This stage of the project requires a three-month closure of Boeckman Road to build a new concrete roundabout.
