DEI Speaker Series: A Couple's Search for Sanctuary

Calendar Date:
Thursday, April 4, 2024 - 6:00pm to 7:30pm

The City’s successful DEI Speaker Series returns in 2024 with another compelling series of lectures programmed by the City's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Committee to help community members better understand the lived experience of historically marginalized community members.

On Thursday, Apr. 4, at 6 pm at the Wilsonville campus of Clackamas Community College (29353 SW Town Center Loop E), this year's series concludes with “Braving the Storm: A Couple's Search for Sanctuary in Wilsonville,” presented by Bob, Kiana and Ellie Furughi.

Wilsonville residents Bob and Kiana Furughi are a Bahá'í couple from Iran. With their daughter Ellie, they will share their immigration journey, a story of resilience, fortitude, the heartbreaking persistence of religious persecution, a refusal to be silenced, and the triumph of hope over darkness. This discussion seeks to shed light on oppression and celebrate the indomitable spirit of those who rise above it and take a stand against global violations of human rights.

DEI Speakers Series events are free, and include light refreshments.

The City is once again partnering with Willamette Falls Studios to record DEI Speaker Series events for more community members to learn and enjoy. Several previous talks can be viewed at bit.ly/DEI_Speakers
