Council Holds Monday Work Session; No Regular Meeting Held

August 8, 2023 — On August 7, 2023, no regular meeting of the Wilsonville City Council was convened because there were no items on the agenda for the Council’s consideration. The work session took place as scheduled.

During the work session, City staff updated the Council on the ongoing work of the Willamette Falls Locks Authority (WFLA) and the Army Corps of Engineers to repair and re-open the locks to river traffic under the WFLA’s stewardship. The Council affirmed its commitment to supporting the WFLA’s efforts, which could boost regional tourism and increase recreational opportunities for Willamette River boaters.

Parks & Recreation staff sought the Council’s feedback on new play equipment to be purchased and installed at Sofia Park in Villebois. The Parks team sought input from neighbors and park users to determine the community’s preferences and ensure a more fun, inclusive play experience for park visitors.

Planning staff introduced the Housing Our Future project, which is analyzing the City’s housing inventory to better understand current and future needs, and to develop strategies that address the City’s 20-year needs. The Council provided its feedback to inform the project, which is also being guided by public feedback and by the City’s recent adoption the Wilsonville Town Center Plan, the Frog Pond Master Plan and the Equitable Housing Strategic Plan.

Additionally, Planning staff shared a summary of proposed amendments to local development code that is aimed at clarifying review processes for certain application types. The amended language would correct inconsistencies, reduce confusion among applicants, and adjust the review process for some Wireless Communications Facility (WCF) applications. A public hearing on the revised code is scheduled for the September meeting of the Planning Commission.

Finally, Planning staff received the Council’s input on proposed development Code amendments that pertain to urban form and architectural standards of structures to be developed in Frog Pond East and South.

The next regular meeting of the City Council is to be held on Monday, August 21, at 7 pm; a pre-meeting work session is scheduled at 5 pm.

Community members can watch all City Council meetings on cable (Xfinity Ch. 30, Ziply Ch. 32) or on the City’s YouTube channel: ci.wilsonville.or.us/WilsonvilleTV.
