December 28, 2021 — The City of Wilsonville has hired Matt Lorenzen to serve as its Economic Development Manager, Community Development Director Chris Neamtzu announced. Lorenzen begins employment with the City today.

For the past five years, Lorenzen has served in a very similar capacity for the City of Estacada, Ore., where he oversaw all economic development and urban renewal activities. During his tenure, he won multiple grant awards, oversaw the redevelopment of the city’s website and served to support commercial and industrial growth through private-public partnerships and targeted marketing and communications.

“Economic development is a team sport,” Lorenzen said. “And it’s not just about business recruitment and job creation, although those are important components. Sustainable and healthy economic development means building a local economy that is diverse, resilient, and community-minded. It’s about building a reputation and a brand that organically attracts new business and capital investment, complementing the city’s existing assets.”

In addition to his professional experience, Lorenzen served a two-year stint, 2018-2020, on an Economic Development Committee in West Linn, where he resides. Prior to working in the public sector, Lorenzen worked in real estate as both a broker and project manager.

“We are excited to put Matt’s skills to work to advance important local and regional economic development initiatives,” Neamtzu said. “With years of experience supporting economic development, tourism, urban renewal and main street revitalization in Clackamas County, he is able to hit the ground running on Wilsonville’s behalf.”

The Arizona native earned a Master’s in Public Administration from the University of Utah after completing his undergraduate studies at Brigham Young University.
