May 12, 2022 — Two seats on the five-member Wilsonville City Council are to be filled during the fall general election on Tuesday, Nov. 8. The current four-year terms of Councilor Charlotte Lehan and Councilor Ben West expire on Dec. 31, 2022.

Wilsonville City Council seats are non-partisan, and those elected serve four-year terms. Candidates are elected at-large, meaning the two candidates receiving the most votes among all candidates are elected.

Candidates may file with Wilsonville’s City Recorder, Kimberly Veliz, between June 1 and Aug. 23. Interested applicants are strongly encouraged to contact Veliz for details on the process. Materials outlining the election process are available at ci.wilsonville.or.us/elections.

To qualify, prospective candidates must be registered voters who have lived within Wilsonville’s city limits for at least 12 months prior to Election Day.  Guidelines require each candidate to submit a pre-approved petition including at least 20 signatures from registered voters who reside within city limits. Signatures must be verified by the City Recorder.

Candidates are encouraged to obtain more signatures than required to ensure a sufficient number of valid signatures. Signatures are invalid if a person is not a registered voter, has recently moved to the community and did not re-register, or lives outside the City limits. Additionally, candidates may need to submit a contribution and expenditure report to the Oregon Secretary of State.

The City's Aug. 23 deadline ensures that the City Recorder has sufficient time to verify signatures and provide candidates an opportunity to correct or obtain additional signatures before the State of Oregon’s filing deadline.

May 17 Primary Election

No local seats are being contested in the May 17 primary. This election is providing voters with the opportunity to vote for their preferred Federal and State candidates in the party in which they are registered. The ballot also allows voters to select candidates for some non-partisan county and regional offices. An Oregon voters' guide is available online with candidate bios and other general information.

Last year, the State completed a redistricting process, adopting new U.S. congressional maps and new State legislative maps. The new boundaries place Wilsonville within one U.S. Congressional District (6th) one State Senate District (13th) and one State House District (26th).

To be counted, ballots must be received at any official drop site in the State of Oregon by 8 pm on Tuesday, May 17, or postmarked no later than May 17. Wilsonville’s only ballot drop is located at Wilsonville City Hall, 29799 SW Town Center Loop E.
