City Seeks Civic-Minded Community Members to Fill Nine Seats on City Boards and Commissions

March 25, 2021 — The City of Wilsonville is recruiting applicants interested in serving on the City boards and commissions that provide guidance and oversight of City programs.

New terms begin in July 2021 for nine open seats on four City boards. Volunteers selected to participate attend evening meetings (no more than once a month) and assist in making policy recommendations to the City Council.

“We rely on the valuable leadership, innovation and community oversight that our board members provide,” Wilsonville Mayor Julie Fitzgerald said. “Anyone passionate about community involvement should consider applying.”

Positions to be filled include:

  • Four seats on the Tourism Promotion Committee
  • Three seats on the Wilsonville-Metro Community Enhancement Committee
  • One seat on the Library Board
  • One seat on the Development Review Board

Qualified applicants are typically interviewed by Mayor Fitzgerald, who then makes appointment recommendations to City Council that must be approved by a majority vote.

The application deadline, for new applicants and existing members seeking re-appointment, is Thursday, April 15, at 5 pm. Applications are available and may be completed online at ci.wilsonville.or.us/boardsapp.

Diversity within the City’s Boards and Commissions is critical to ensure that City policies and programs serve people of every race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion and ability.  People of all races, genders, ages and nationalities are encouraged to apply.

Even when no active recruitment activities are taking place, anyone interested in being considered for a future opening on a City board may submit an application, which is kept for one year to be considered as positions become available.

DEI Board Application Deadline Nearing

In addition to the positions listed above, the City is recruiting 9-11 volunteers to serve on the  new Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Committee. Applications must be submitted by 5 pm on Monday, April 5.

The DEI Committee is being established to identify and address systemic barriers to inclusion that exist within the City’s practices, processes, regulations, events and other initiatives. The DEI Board application is available in English and Spanish, and may be completed and submitted online at ci.wilsonville.or.us/DEI.

Board service is one of many ways that volunteers improve the Wilsonville community, enhancing the City’s ability to serve residents, businesses and visitors. For more information on volunteer opportunities, visit ci.wilsonville.or.us/volunteer.
