Public Works - Environmental Services Division oversees the operation of the Wastewater Treatment Plant and maintenance of the sewer collection system, which consists of 60 miles of pipe, over 1400 sanitary sewer manholes and eight pumping stations.
Maintenance staff clean the sanitary sewer pipes and manholes using a “Combination Truck” (a truck that has both high pressure cleaning and vacuum system to remove clogged debris). This vehicle operates a 1 inch diameter by 600 foot hose at 2000 pounds per square inch of pressure with 60 gallons of water per minute. The fresh water tank holds up to 1,000 gallons and the debris tank holds up to 2,000 gallons of soiled water or 10 square yards of dry material. An eight inch vacuum hose is used for the cleaning of the sanitary sewer manholes.
The Environmental Services Division includes an Industrial Pretreatment Section that is responsible for monitoring commercial and industrial discharges to the sanitary sewer collection system to ensure compliance with set standards. Staff work with customers to reduce or eliminate contaminants in their discharge through testing, education and enforcement.
The Wastewater Treatment Plant is located at 9275 SW Tauchman Road.
